Liquid nitrogen can be used to treat a variety of skin lesions. Most commonly it is used for sun damaged skin or actinic keratosis (AK), seborrheic keratosis (SK) or waxy, pasted-on skin lesions, verruca (warts), or lentigo (freckle) that occurs from sun exposure.
There is usually minimal discomfort or stinging and the number of freeze cycles depends on the location being treated and the thickness of the lesion. Often one treatment is sufficient but a second or third treatment may be necessary.

A blister may form and within 1-2 weeks the treated area will be healed and slightly pink. Biopsy may be indicated if the lesion does not resolve with liquid nitrogen.
